Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits-What About Weight Loss?

March 5th, 2010

Welcome back! When we left the last time, I told you we would talk about apple cider vinegar benefits in relationship to weight loss. I also said I was going to tell you my weight loss story… Some of you sent me an email letting me know that you weren’t interested in supplementing with apple cider vinegar, but you really just wanted to know how I finally lost all that weight. If that was you…

This is what finally worked for me! Check it out here!

So what about apple cider vinegar and weight loss? Out of all of the apple cider vinegar benefits, why is weight loss the one that gets the most attention? Does it really work? Will it work for you?

The Apple Cider Vinegar Diet has been around for many many years. It certainly isn’t new, that’s for sure. The diet itself was probably made most popular by Dr. Jarvis in the 1950’s. The concept of the diet was that by supplementing with two to three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar prior to eating a meal your body would burn fat rather than store it.

Many believe that apple cider vinegar benefits weight loss efforts for the same reasons they believe it benefits a diabetic…

It is believed that apple cider vinegar slows the digestion of starchy food, therefore lowering the glycemic index of the food you eat. By slowing the digestion of starches you virtually eliminate spikes in blood glucose levels. By stabilizing blood glucose levels you are minimizing the cravings that many dieters fight. Sound familiar? Same health benefits that are thought to aid in controlling diabetes!

The fact is, if you control your blood sugar, you will have greater success at controlling your weight.

So whats your opinion? Are apple cider vinegar benefits too good to be true?

I think it’s time to tell you my story…

It’s probably not much different than your own if you are trying to lose weight. I was struggling. Struggling to fit everything into my day… kids, job, life in general. Oh yeah, and then on top of that I was suppose to be able to find time to exercise too. I didn’t have the energy for what was already on my plate!

I own a treadmill, an expensive weight lifting machine, a tread climber, an elyptical machine, free weights, the wave… I really had bought it all. Tried it all. For about a week each! If I had saved the money, instead of buying a bunch of work out equipment I was never going to use I could have paid for liposuction instead!

I would probably still be looking for the next magic pill if I hadn’t stumbled across a video that changed everything for me. It literally changed my life! I really didn’t think it was any different than the rest of the crap I had bought. Not even sure why I couldn’t stop listening…but something stopped me from turning it off.

Check It Out Here!

I was about 40 lbs over weight and too tired to care. I dreaded everything about my life. I knew I was never going to have the time to fit in long workouts and I didn’t really think anything would be simple enough for me to actually do it or make it work. I was wrong! My life changed because I listened to a video that I found surfing the net one night.

I know that apple cider vinegar benefits your weight loss efforts, because I lost weight slowly without changing any thing else about my diet. But seriously, I never would have believed how quickly I lost weight when I was actually told the truth about how to do it!

If you are anything like me you will still be skeptical. I don’t blame you, but if you have it in you to try one more thing… this is THE thing to try! I would never have believed that you can be thin without spending hours working out and watching every little thing you put in your mouth. I didn’t want to live like that!

This Is What Worked For Me!

The health benefits of apple cider vinegar are thought to be many. More research is needed to provide definitive results. I still think apple cider vinegar benefits are worthy enough for me to supplement with it. You’re going to have to decide for yourself…

Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits – Are You Convinced

February 23rd, 2010

I said in my last post that we could discuss some of the specific apple cider vinegar benefits more in depth.

While the list of health benefits of apple cider vinegar seem very impressive you must be asking yourself if there is scientific evidence backing up the claims. There are certainly studies with very promising results, but I personally have concluded that this is one of those arguments in which we may never have conclusive evidence that everyone agrees upon.

You know the type…like what came first, the chicken or the egg? Everyone has their own opinion.

I recommend you decide what’s best for you with the help of a health professional prior to supplementing your diet in any way.

That being said, lets talk about possible apple cider vinegar benefits.

Perhaps the most important health benefit of apple cider vinegar, is its possible affect on diabetes. Apple cider vinegar is said to lower blood glucose levels.

Arizona State University conducted a study involving two groups. At bedtime the groups ate one ounce of cheese accompanied by either two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or two tablespoons of water for two days. The group that ate the cheese with the vinegar showed a definite positive impact on their blood glucose readings the next morning. The study was very small and lasted only a short period of time. More research is necessary to be conclusive.

The acetic acid in vinegar is also credited with lowering post meal rises in blood glucose because it is thought to slow the digestion of starches reducing their glycemic index. Decreasing spikes in blood glucose levels is the goal of all diabetics. Research is ongoing regarding the health benefits of apple cider vinegar and its affect on diabetes.

Preliminary studies also show acetic acid could be responsible for lowering blood pressure. While they are unsure, it is believed that apple cider vinegar may cause an increase to our levels of nitric oxide which is responsible for relaxing blood vessels, therefore affecting our blood pressure.

Additionally acetic acid is said to have substantially reduced both cholesterol and triglyceride levels in rats during one study in 2006. Human studies are needed to see if the same significant results could be achieved.

Are you getting the picture? Lots of possible apple cider vinegar benefits, but is there evidence substantiating the claims? Have you formed your opinion yet?

We haven’t even begun to talk about weight loss…

I waited to discuss weight loss because it is probably the most controversial benefit of apple cider vinegar and it is typically the reason that people look into supplementing with apple cider vinegar in the first place. I know it was the most appealing of the apple cider vinegar benefits for myself.

There are some that would claim that apple cider vinegar is the answer to everyone’s weight issues. Some may even imply that it produces almost magical results. In reality I believe that apple cider vinegar benefits your weight loss efforts, but I found it as an enhancement to my weight loss program, not an alternative to it.

I’ll tell you all about my results and talk way more about apple cider vinegar benefits in relationship to weight loss in my next post.
